Objective(s): To carry out hydrographic surveys to ensure safe navigational corridors for ice breaking cargo ships as well as other ships transiting Canada's southern Northwest Passage. This work is requested by the Government of the NWT.
Project Description: Upon arrival in Dolphin and Union Strait, the surveyors will leave the mothership on smaller vessels in order to measure the depths of water in the Strait and determine the position of the shoreline and other geographical features. These measurements will be used to construct nautical charts or maps of the area. Similar activities will be conducted in the Coronation Gulf and Ice Breaker Channel during the following weeks.
