Objective(s): To discover how women artists learned their artistic skills, the role that art plays in their lives, the effect of formal and traditional education in their learning; to provide guidelines for the preservation of women's art forms and skills in the education of future generations.
Project Description: In Phase Two of this project, follow-up interviews will be conducted with women artists that were interviewed in 1992. Additional interviews will be held with women artists at the craft and arts festivals held in Inuvik. During these video-taped sessions, women will tell of how they developed as artists. This information will comprise the researcher's Ph.D. thesis and a book may eventually be published on Western Arctic female artists.
