Objective(s): To examine the age, size, sex and maturity of charr taken in the subsistence fishery; to determine a total allowable catch for harvest of anadromous dolly varden charr from Big Fish River by Aklavik residents.

Project Description: The Big Fish River was closed to fishing activities in 1986 in accordance with recommendations by the Aklavik HTC and the Fisheries Joint Management Committee based on indications that the stock had been overfished. After a five-year recovery period, the river was opened to fishing in 1992. A quota of 700 fish (caught during the month of August) was set and all fished captured in the fishery were weighed, measured and sampled by community monitors.
