Objective(s): To continue to organize, excerpt and annotate the expedition journals kept by W.E. Parry and his fellow officers during their visit to the Northern Foxe Basin in the years 1821 to 1823. On completion, the excerpts and annotations will provide an easily accessible database on the prevailing conditions in the Igloolik area at the time of initial European contact.
Project Description: The expedition journals kept by W.E. Parry during his visits to the Northern Foxe Basin during 1821-1823 will be organized, excerpted and annotated under approximately 100 thematic headings and sub-headings. These journals provide the earliest written records of the area. The project will emphasize Inuit ethnology but will include geography, toponymy, biology, climatology and geology.
