Objective(s): To gain an understanding of past and current fish and wildlife resources in the Mackenzie Basin and their economic importance. With this information, and information from the Canadian Climate Centre General Circulation Model, it may be possible to predict the effects of climate change on fish and wildlife species in the region. 1993 research involves a trip to Yellowknife to determine the type, source and availability of data required for the study.

Project Description: The proposed research will investigate the implications of climatic change for fish and wildlife resources in the Mackenzie River Basin. A computer model will be used to predict temperature and precipitation changes associated with an expected doubling of carbon dioxide concentrations. Data points used in the modelling exercise will correspond to selected weather stations in the region. The researcher will visit Yellowknife in 1993 to assess data requirements.
