Objective(s): to study the expectations, experiences, personality, and other psychological factors of scientists and field assistants engaged in research in the high arctic; to develop a standard debriefing format which will be usable in both Arctic and Antarctic environments to improve preparation and training, selection, and station design for such personnel.
Project Description: In its 5th phase of research, the Polar Psychology Project will involve interviewing and surveying scientists, students, and assistants working in the 2 circumpolar areas. The goal is to gain a better understanding of psychological and psychophysiological processes that affect people working on a time-limited basis in the 2 circumpolar areas, as well as to develop improved procedures for enhancing their adaptation.
