Objective(s): The project is the first step in a longitudinal study on the acquisition of Inuktitut. Objectives are to: add to the descriptive literature on the acquisition of affixes; establish the ordering of this acquisition of affixes; study stranding in noun incorporation and to see if there is a correlation with so-called violations on constraints in extraction in English speaking children.

Project Description: This project involves the collection of 2 types of data: (1) the acquisition of affixes in children beginning to speak Inuktitut in homes where only Inuktitut is spoken; and (2) the acquisition of stranding by older children who have already aquired noun incorporation. In each case, speeches would be taped and translated/transcribed into English.
