Objective(s): To determine spatial/temporal variation of selected metals and metalloids and whether or not their concentrations have been statistically significantly increased over background levels in surficial sediment in Strathcona Sound; to field test monitoring methods and use the Nanisivik study as a potential model for future environmental assessments in Arctic marine areas; to establish the relative toxicity using bioassays of sediments collected from within the study area;

Project Description: The researcher will assess the extent of trace metal migration in Strathcona Sound, to determine if this contamination could result in any toxic effects on biota, and to assess the effectiveness of environmental monitoring methods in the high Arctic.
