Objective(s): To identify and collect plants used by Inuit, discuss and record current and past uses of plants, determine geographical location of plants gathered and the amount of time spent harvesting them, determine the significance of plants for Inuit, provide opportunity for youth to work with elders in collection and analysis of plants, and develop a model of Inuit plant knowledge;
Project Description: The researchers will collect samples of plants Inuit indicate are important to their lives, including nutritional, economic, ecological, social, cultural and religious importance. The uses and meaning of the plants and the land on which they grow will be discussed with Inuit and recorded. The way in which Inuit think about plants and how they use them will be analyzed.
