Objective(s): To define the connection between the opening of the Arctic Ocean during the Cretaceous period, development of a continental margin, major crustal extension and rapid subsidence in the Sverdrup Basin, and voluminous basaltic magmatism; to investigate the field relations, petrology, mineralogy, geochemistry, and geochronology of magmatic rocks of the northern Canadian Arctic Islands;

Project Description: The researcher and his team will define the connection between the opening of the Arctic Ocean during the Cretaceous period, development of a continental margin, major crustal extension and rapid subsidence in the Sverdrup Basin, and voluminous basaltic magmatism. To achieve this, they will be investigating the field relations, petrology, mineralogy, geochemistry, and geochronology of magmatic rocks of the northern Canadian Arctic Islands.
