Objective(s): To understand how modern conditions and processes operate in the tidewater marginal zone of the Grinnell Glacier; to determine the history of retreat of the glacier from the "Little Ice Age" position that the glacier occupied until late in the 19th century; to determine the mode and rates of retreat of glaciers in tidewater settings based on evidence in the sedimentary record preserved in the marine basins;

Project Description: This study will investigate how glaciers retreat in marine waters through the analysis of the sedimentary record in front of modern tidewater glaciers. The research will determine the critical factors such as valley morphology, water depth, climatic and glaciological conditions that have influenced the retreat of the marine margin of the Grinnell Glacier since its last advance during the Litte Ice Age.
