Objective(s): To understand the oceanographic processes on the Canadian Beaufort Shelf which control exchange of material at the shelf edge, transport of material in the nearshore, and processes which control the timing and location of primary production over the shelf;
Project Description: Funded by NOGAP, this ongoing project is addressing the transport of substances to and across the Beaufort Shelf including hydrocarbons, and the ecological processes with which oil exploration will interact. The dynamics of shorefast ice fields, shelf circulation and currents, vertical mixing processes, water properties, plant pigments in the water column and vertical flux of particles over the shelf are being studied.
