Objective(s): To provide an opportunity for northern students/participants to learn about the general methods and aims of anthropological research; to provide students/ participants with a background in the prehistory of eastern Siberia, Arctic Canada and Greenland; to provide the opportunity for students/participants to apply concepts learned in the classroom to a field research situation; to expose participants to community-action research techniques through the involvement of elders and other knowledgeable community members; to introduce students to Geographic Information Systems.
Project Description: As part of the Environmental Technology Program of Arctic College this work will attempt to integrate Euro-Canadian science with Inuit traditional knowledge. The Peterhead Inlet site provides a context in which students/participants gain experience in the fundamentals of data analysis and recovery while exploring a diverse range of research topics.
