Objective(s): to study the propagation speed and attenuation of sound waves in ice and how it affects sound under the ice; to measure the waves under ice by sound transmittance and to document their speed

Project Description: Mr. Rajan and his team will be studying how sound waves are carried under sea ice. They will drill a pair of holes a known distance apart, a sound source will be placed in one hole and a receiver in another. They will measure the time taken for the sound pulse to travel from one hole to another in order to determine the sound speed.
