Objective(s): to obtain ice cores from topographic high and low points of multiyear sea ice floes; to conduct an ice core analysis program of salinity, temperature, density, oxygen isotope and crystallographic measurements; to determine the relative age of the ice and the amounts of cogelation, frazil, platelet sea ice and brackish ice; to determine the amounts of deformed and undeformed ice and the growth history

Project Description: Using a camp on the Arctic Ocean Dr. Jeffries and his research assistant will collect sea ice core samples and conduct a program of analysis. The sea ice in the region the samples will be taken represents some of the oldest, thickest and slowest- moving in the Arctic Ocean.
