Objectif(s): To assess the role of permafrost in the movement of potentially toxic substances carried in water flow over the surface and through the active layer; det. rates and amnts. of deposition of these materials in the active layer, the upper part of the permafrost zone and in the sediments and water of lakes and ponds in the vicinity of the dump; assess the changes to the nearby environ. during the period of dump use and through the time of its subsequent abandonment; provide a d/base to assist in plng., mgmt., and treatment of both abandoned dump sites and existing, active disposal sites in arctic environments.
