Objectif(s): The objective of the research is to create a practical guide to increasing union representation in Yukon, NWT and Nunavut mining sectors. The desired outcome will be a review of past campaigns, an examination of the political and economic dynamics of the region and suggestions for strategic direction.

Description du projet: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No. 5988. The objective of the research is to create a practical guide to increasing union representation in Yukon, NWT and Nunavut mining sectors. The desired outcome will be a review of past campaigns, an examination of the political and economic dynamics of the region and suggestions for strategic direction. The methods employed will consist of: 1) Key document review: Economic statistics, collective agreements, union meeting minutes, Socio-Economic Agreements and other key documents will be reviewed. 2) Key informant interview: Union staff, government and company representatives will be interviewed online over Zoom and in-person. Communications of information and consent letters approved by McMaster University's ethics board will be sent by email to community organizations, stakeholders and individuals which are asked to participate in research. These organizations will include: - Public Service Alliance of Canada - Government of the Northwest Territories The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from: September 23 - October 31, 2024
