Objectif(s): To evaluate the following anticipated results of implementing the Nurse Residency Program (NRP): a) New graduates will experience less stress, and greater comfort with their nursing responsibilities and their relationships with other employees during their first six months in practice than has been reported in previous studies of new nurses transitioning into practice in Canada. b) At the end of the NRP, Nurse Residents will demonstrate clinical competence in their nursing position, defined as the integration of the competencies guiding the NRP. c) Following successful completion of the NRP, Nurse Residents will successfully integrate into the nursing workforce defined as the ability to independently assume the full responsibilities of their nursing position.
Description du projet: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No. 5715. The research team will evaluate the following anticipated results of implementing the Nurse Residency Program (NRP): a) Newly graduated nurses from a Baccalaureate nursing degree (referred to as Nurse Residents) in the Program will experience less stress, and greater comfort with their nursing responsibilities and their relationships with other employees during their first six months in practice than has been reported in previous studies of new nurses transitioning into practice in Canada. b) At the end of the NRP, Nurse Residents will demonstrate clinical competence in their nursing position, defined as the integration of the competencies guiding the NRP. c) Following successful completion of the NRP, Nurse Residents will successfully integrate into the nursing workforce defined as the ability to independently assume the full responsibilities of their nursing position. The Nurse Residency Program (NRP) will be evaluated using multiple data collection methods administered at different points of time. Partnering Health Care Institutions will provide a Site Contact to facilitate any needed Institutional Approvals and navigate community engagement (see Health Care Agency and Site Contact Operational Approval Tracking) The Site Contact will share the name and email of interested potential Nurse Resident and Preceptor Mentor participants to the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (who facilitate the Nurse Residency Program), who will then send a research welcome letter (See NRP Research Evaluation Correspondence Mapping {pre-enrollment phase}) to each potential participant, with the Residency Research Coordinator of this study cc'd. The recipients (potential participants) will then be followed up with by the Residency Research Coordinator with a consent cover letter (see See NRP Research Evaluation Correspondence Mapping) and consent form (see Nurse Resident Consent Form, Preceptor Mentor Consent Form) After the Nurse Residents and Preceptor Mentors have consented to participate in the evaluation of the NRP the following will happen, sequentially: Time 0- 1) Nurse Resident Information Form (see Nurse Resident Information Form) 2) Preceptor Mentor Information Form (see Preceptor Mentor Information Form) Weeks 1-14 1) Program checklist completed by the NR (see Nurse Residency Program Checklist) completed weekly for 4 weeks, then biweekly for the remainder of the 6 month program. Time 1 (3 months after program entry) 1) Nurse Resident Questionnaire DPRTS, CFGNES, NPC, WRQOL, demographic questions (See Nurse Resident Questionnaire Instrumentation), 2) CASN 3-month Competency Evaluation Rubric (See Competency Evaluation Rubric- 3 Months),3) NR interviews (See Nurse Resident 3 month Interview Guide) Weeks 15-24 Biweekly program checklists (See Nurse Residency Program Checklist) completed by NR Time 2 (6 months after program entry) 1) NRQ (DPRTS, WRQOL, NPC, MBI-HSS, Casey-Fink), demographic questions (See Nurse Resident Questionnaire Instrumentation), 2) CASN Competency Evaluation Rubric (See Competency Evaluation Rubric- 6 Months), 3) NR Interviews (See Nurse Resident 6 month Interview Guide), 4) PM focus group (See Preceptor Mentor 6 month Focus Group Guide), 5) Managers/Supervisors/Site Contacts focus group (Manager Supervisor Site Contact Consent Form, Manager Supervisor Site Contact 6 month Focus Group Guide) Time 3 (12 months) 1) NRQ (DPRTS, WRQOL, NPC, MBI-HSS) (See Nurse Resident Questionnaire Instrumentation), demographic questions, 2) NR focus group (Nurse Resident 12 month Focus Group Guide) No deception is involved See attached 'NRP Research Evaluation Methodology' document for further detail regarding the methodology. See explanation of instrumentation, embedded correspondence and schedule The Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing has entered into an agreement with Stanton Hospital in order to deliver the Nurse Residency Program. Part of this agreement includes designation of a Health Care Agency Site Contact at Stanton Hospital who will guide the research team in communication with NWT stakeholders and community organizations The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from: September 30 - December 31, 2023.
