Objectif(s): To collect soil samples from the active layer and near-surface permafrost.

Description du projet: The objective of the fieldwork is to collect soil samples from the active layer and near-surface permafrost. Twelve samples will be collected from coastal bluffs at Crumbling Point, and six samples from river banks beside East Channel. Soil profiles 1-2 m deep and naturally exposed by coastal, lake or river erosion will be cleared of slumped soil by spade, and described and recorded. At each site, two soil horizons will be sampled by trowel and knife to collect 5 kg of unfrozen soil and 5 kg of permafrost soil. The samples will be shipped from Inuvik to the UK for analysis. The results of the research will be submitted for publication in scientific journals. A summary of the main findings of the research will be published in one or more media outlets in the NWT such as EdgeYK. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from August 6, 2019 to August 20, 2019.
