Objectif(s): To conduct a combined Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments for a buried pipeline located within the municipality of Fort Resolution, and to identify any health and safety concerns associated with the buried pipe line.
Description du projet: The first objective is to conduct a combined Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments for a buried pipeline located within the municipality of Fort Resolution, Northwest Territories. The second objective is to identify any health and safety concerns associated with the buried pipe line. A records review and gap analysis will be done to synthesize the information that the research team have on the pipeline and identify the information which must still be collected. This will include community consultation. An initial site assessment will be done to identify: physical hazards, environmental impacts to soil, surface and groundwater, hazardous/non-hazardous building materials, wastes, and relevant site conditions. A preliminary survey will identify the presence of contaminants in the soil, groundwater, and surface water. A minimum of 3 control/reference stations will be established. Groundwater monitoring wells may be installed. The ultimate goal here is to close this site and have it no longer be an environmental liability. The first step to achieving this goal is understanding what is there, and the history of the area. The research team will be meeting with local people to listen to and address their concerns and learn from their first-hand knowledge of the Fort Resolution Pipeline. Reports of this research will be distributed to the community when complete. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from August 7, 2015 to December 31, 2015.
