Objectif(s): To sample paleogene rocks for sedimentological and stratigraphical analysis and dating; to sample underlying rocks for correlation with equivalent formations in Northern Yukon and dating; and to measure the possible deformation of the paleogene rocks at the inferred location of sealed faults (Eskimo Lake Fault Zone).

Description du projet: The objectives of the CaHiGeo project are to sample paleogene rocks for sedimentological and stratigraphical analysis and dating; to sample the underlying rocks for correlation with equivalent formations in Northern Yukon and dating; and to measure the possible deformation of the paleogene rocks at the inferred location of sealed faults (Eskimo Lake Fault Zone). The methods used in the field for the CaHiGeo project include the sampling of rocks in limited amount (hand specimens, total less than 50 kg) for dating and analysis in the laboratory. In the laboratory, dating methods will combine U-Th/He on apatites and zircons for dating the recent thermal history and detrital zircons U/Pb dating to determine the possible sources for sedimentary deposits from the measuring of fault planes and deformation with compasses. A short, non-technical report at the end of field work explaining findings in the field will be submitted to Aurora Research Institute. Copies of any published material from this research will also be sent to Aurora Research Institute. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from July 22, 2013 to July 25, 2013.
