Objectif(s): To determine the levels of potential chemicals of concern in three major fish species through the analysis of muscle and liver samples for mercury, radionuclides and a number of elements.
Description du projet: The goal of this project is to determine the levels of potential chemicals of concern in three major fish species through the analysis of muscle and liver samples for mercury, radionuclides and a number of elements. Fish of three species (lake trout, lake whitefish and lake herring) will be collected in the Keith Arm of Great Bear Lake near the community of Deline. Approximately 15 trout and 10 whitefish and 10 herring will be analyzed. All field sampling and logistics will be conducted by the people in Deline. Samples will be collected by the community, under the direction of the DRRC, and samples will be extracted in the community. The results of the study will be communicated through the Deline Renewable Resource Council which will be leading the project. If requested, the consultant will discuss the results with the Chief and Council and community members in community meetings after submission of a report. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from December 4, 2012 to December 31, 2012.
