Objectif(s): This research will examine lakes possibly affected by the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project pipeline, and lakes that can serve as future control/reference sites.

Description du projet: This licence is issued for the scientific research application # 835. This research will examine lakes possibly affected by the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project pipeline, and lakes that can serve as future control/reference sites. Measurements of nutrients and metals in lake water and sediments, lake water quality (DO, pH, conductivity, etc.), and benthic invertebrate and plankton abundance/species composition will be conducted. Approximately 10 lakes in the Gwich’in Settlement Region which will be affected by the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project pipeline route, from these, the actual study lakes will be chosen after further discussions with the Gwich'in. Work on Campbell Lake will be conducted by boat. We will hire a guide (with boat), and possibly a student assistant, to help with sampling on Campbell Lake. Fieldwork will be conducted from July 01 to October 31, 2008, in the Gwich’in Settlement Area, at Travaillant Lake, Sandy Lake, Tregnantchiez Lake, Deep Lake, Bathing Lake, Rengleng Lake, Odizen Lake, Sunny Lake, Caribou Lake, Jiggle Lake, Wounded Bear Lake, Loche Lake, Big Stone Lake, In and Out Lake, Whirl Lake, Attoe Lake, Cardinal Lake, Clearwater Lake, Tundra Lake, Puzzle Lake, Beaver Lake, Campbell Lake, Hill Lake, Fish Trap Lake, Wood Bridge Lake, Crossing Creek Lake.
