Objectif(s): The research will examine streams possibly affected by the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project pipeline, and streams that can serve as future control/reference sites.
Description du projet: The research will examine streams possibly affected by the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project pipeline, and streams that can serve as future control/reference sites. Measurements of stream nutrients, metals in stream water, water quality (DO, pH, conductivity, etc.), stream characteristics (flow, width, depth, etc.) and aquatic invertebrate abundance/species composition will be completed. Possible testing of chemical levels in lake trout from Great Bear Lake will occur based on availability. All fish will be caught through gill nets or angling. Helicopters will be used for transportation to sampling sites and community members will be hired to collect fish. Fieldwork will be conducted from July 01 to December 31, 2008, in the Sahtu Settlement Area at Bogg Creek (N65.03241, W126.21271); Bosworth Creek (N65.28261, W126.86917); Canyon Creek (N65.2123, W126.54131); Devo Creek (N65.41184, W127.49355); Fair Creek (N65.48836, W127.75838); Fake Creek (N64.91964, W126.00444); Little Birch River (N64.68002, W125.07725); Loon Creek (N65.23881, W126.91379); Mackay Creek (N64.87325, W125.72028); Maida Creek (N65.60825, W128.26143); Oscar Creek (N65.43528, W127.4574); Raspberry Creek (N65.60838, W128.22504); Ray Creek, (N65.28404, W127.16884); Slater River (N64.96615, W126.09696); Stewart Creek (N65.19923, W126.65574); Trapper Creek (N65.54699, W127.88457); Unnamed Creek (N65.59765, W128.0387); Windy Creek (N65.45388, W127.69697); Great Bear Lake (N65.17768, W123.36362).
