Description du projet: This licence was issued for the application # 831. The objective of this study is to improve the detail on publicly-available maps and look at unanswered geological questions about Cretaceous rocks in the Sahtu region. Geological tools have changed sufficiently since the previous maps were made to warrant another more detail-focused study. The aim of the field work is to make measurements and collect samples; these will be tested at the University of Calgary labs. The field work will be helicopter-supported, taking flights from Norman Wells with Sahtu Helicopters. The researchers will stay overnight in Norman Wells at one of the hotels there. The helicopter will drop them off and they will hike on foot to the rock outcrops of interest. There are no live samples collected during this field work, just rock samples of Cretaceous-aged sediments. The samples will be collected with hammers and chisels. There will not be any power tools used. The samples will be small (typically hand-sized). The researchers will take the samples with them in the helicopter back to Norman Wells and then to Calgary to test at the University of Calgary labs. The researchers will remain in consultation with the Norman Wells RRC to avoid conflict with the harvesting/hunting locations. They will be sending reports in plain language and a poster showing the map area to the SRRB, the RRC, ARI Library and any other interested organization who request reports. If other organizations are interested they may contact the researchers for a copy. Fieldwork will be conducted from July 30 to August 16, 2008, at the following locations in the Sahtu: 1)126'04'W and 65'26'N; On the eastern side of Kelly Lake along the river valley. 2)125'45'W and 65'31'N; Along the river entering Kelly Lake on the eastern side; 3)125'06'W and 65'21'N; Along the river on the south side of Brackett Lake; 4)125'28'W and 65'0'N; Along the Little Bear river where it cuts through the mountains; 5)124'50'W and 64'40'N; 6)125'15'N and 64'10'N; (If there is sufficient funding)
