Objectif(s): To use Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) to reduce tobacco abuse in Aklavik and Holman.

Description du projet: This licence was issued for the scientific research licence application number 783. The aim of the study is to use Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) to reduce tobacco abuse in Aklavik and Holman. CBPR groups were selected from the local community, trained about tobacco and health, CBPR, and how to design surveys and collect data for themselves. Each team will conduct a baseline survey about tobacco use, and annual surveys will be done to measure the impact of interventions to reduce tobacco abuse. Teams will work with community members to plan tobacco reduction strategies. CBPR Groups will communicate results with community members as soon as they have interpreted results and produced materials (e.g. posters, flyers, radio announcements) to plan appropriate action to reduce tobacco use. Fieldwork will be conducted from March 17 to December 31, 2008, in Aklavik and Holman.
