Objectif(s): The purpose of this research is to document the experiences, perspectives and support needs of community mental health and addiction workers in the NWT.
Description du projet: The purpose of this research is to document the experiences, perspectives and support needs of community mental health and addiction workers in the NWT. The researcher will gather data through interviews with GNWT mental health and addictions service providers in various communities. Paraprofessionals from all of the regional health authorities will be asked to volunteer to participate in the research (10-15 participants are sought) and in the development of the research process. A local research assistant will be hired and funding is available for compensation of translators, elders and knowledge holders. A plain-language summary of the study will be sent to all participants. A copy of the Masters Thesis will be made available to the Aurora Research Institute, and to interested participants. Results will be presented to the health profession community via the Mental Health and Addictions Services regional meetings, or conference calls. The researcher may request meetings with leaders (the Minister, senior administrators within DHSS) to present findings and discuss their implications on GNWT health policy and practice. Local media may also be contacted for interviews. Findings may be presented in journals and conferences. Fieldwork will be conducted from March 25th to December 31st, 2008, in Inuvik and and the Beaufort-Delta region.
