Description du projet: The objective of this project is to determine the effect of Great Slave Lake on air and surface temperatures, and permafrost conditions. Each of the study sites along the Ingram Trail that were instrumented with air and surface temperature sensors during summer 2003 will be revisited in 2005. The data loggers will be downloaded, relaunched and the batteries will be replaced at each instrumentation site. Active-layer depths will be measured and the thermal properties of the ground will be monitored. Snow surveys will be conducted every six-weeks during winter 2005-06 to determine the depth and density of the snow pack. A copy of the thesis generated from this study and any related publications will be forwarded to the Aurora Research Institute, Dogrib Treaty 11 Tribal Council (Tlicho Government), North Slave Metis Alliance, and Yellowknives Dene First Nation. Yellowknife residents and INAC employees are involved with this project. The study will be conducted at Ryan Lake, Pontoon Lake, Cameron River, and Tibbit Lake from July 27 to August 31, 2005 and from November 7 to November 21, 2005.
