Objectif(s): This project will examine the effect of Great Slave Lake on air and surface temperatures in peatlands near Yellowknife. Numerical models use air and surface temperature to predict permafrost conditions. The relation between air and surface temperature is controlled by site characteristics such as vegetation, moisture availability, and ground cover, and therefore vary over space and through time. It is hypothesized that the proximity to Great Slave Lake also affects the relation between air and surface temperature. The objective of this project is to measure air and surface temperatures in peatlands at various distances from Great Slave Lake to determine the effect of the lake on air and surface temperatures.
