Objectif(s): The possibility of climate warming demands detailed analysis of the carbon budget in boreal forest ecosystems, which may be among the world's major carbon sinks. The research team will examine the carbon dynamics of jack pine forests in Wood Buffalo National Park through the use of a production ecological method applied to chronosequence of even-aged stands. The purpose is to present patterns of carbon dynamics by measuring the amount of litter, heterotrophic soil respiration, and fine root growth and mortality. This is the third year of the field study.
