Objectif(s): The deepwater sculpin is a small species of fish found only in the deepest lakes in Canada. Its' closest relative is the marine fourhorn sculpin which is distributed in shallow marine waters of the arctic North American coast. This research has two components; biogeographical and ecological. To resolve the issue of origin of the deepwater sculpin, more data on the distribution, genetic structure of stocks and populations, and the genetic relationships between deepwater and fourhourn sculpin is needed. In addition, more information needs to be gathered on the ecological requirements of deepwater sculpin to better understand its distribution and lead to improved conservation efforts. Results from this study will provide insight into several questions regarding the evolution and taxonomy of the deepwater sculpin.
