Objectif(s): Existing reconnaissance maps of the project area, published in the mid-70's are based on mapping in the 1940's and 50's. This project is designed to improve the quality of these bedrock and surficial maps, to provide a more accurate basis for making informed decisions about land use and resource potential. This project is a multi-agency, multidisciplinary effort to study two geosciences transects across the foothills, one in northeastern British Columbia, and the other in the southern Yukon and NWT. The main purpose is to map the bedrock and surficial geology at 1:50,000 and 1:250,000 scales, by determining the distribution of rock units and identifying the ages, stratigraphic positions and facies changes of those units. In addition, detailed analysis of specific rock units will be used to develop generalized maps of the regional geography at various times in the geological past. An important part of the mapping will include descriptions of the ages, attitudes and transport directions of the folding and faulting that have deformed the rocks.
