Description du projet: Data will be collected that can help to predict climate of the near future and determine the impact of temperature change on northern hydrology. The investigator will attempt to better understand how methane-producing bacteria function giving us a better understanding of their feedback on climate change. The research area is a quarry along the Dempster highway east of Campbell Lake. This site will be accessed each day by vehicle. Small amounts of water and soil will be sampled from the thawed active layer of the permafrost and will be tested for methane and carbon dioxide. These samples will be sent to a laboratory in Ottawa for further analysis.
