Objectif(s): The project is currently in a monitoring stage with little new work being conducted. Overall study objectives include: 1) Quantitatively describe key ecosystem components affecting processes in a Subarctic Picea Marianna ecosystem; 2) Conduct a detailed monitoring of experimental rehabilitation treatments designed to manipulate disturbances initated within this ecosystem that were themselves a simulation of a transport corridor; 3) Test, under controlled field conditions, several rehabilitation/revegitation treatments and determine their relative merits over the short- and long-term.

Description du projet: The research is planned to see what happens after the surface of the land was changed by clearing of the trees and trenching of the soil in 1985 and 1986, and the spilling of crude-oil in 1988. Ways to fix or lessen these disturbances are being tested to see to see which are best. Many studies will be done, including measurement of: air and soil temperature, wind speed, moisture, water movement, permafrost, snow, plants and small animals.
