Objectif(s): To estimate the potential effects of increased temperatures associated with predicted global warming on populations of arctic woolly-bear caterpillars (Gynaephora spp., primarily G. groenlandica) and their insect parasitoids by examining: (1) the species of insect parasitoids which use the caterpillars as their hosts; (2) the impact of the parasitoids on the host population; (3) the life cycles of the parasitoids; and (4) the effects of temperature on the developmental rates and activities of both the parasitoids and their hosts.

Description du projet: Surveys will be conducted in order to: (1) document the life stages of the caterpillars (e.g., eggs, larvae, pupae and adults) during the summer; (2) count the number of caterpillars killed by insect `parasites' or parasitoids; and (3) document the timing of the insect parasitoids's life cycle. Finally, since temperature affects growth, experiments with different temperatures will be use to examine its effect on the development of caterpillars and parasitoids.
