Objectif(s): To track the fate of arctic river waters within the Arctic Ocean using natural geochemical signatures; to understand how the Arctic Ocean waters circulate which is necessary for understanding the global climate system and predicting the fate of radioactive wastes.
Description du projet: The researchers will be tracking the fate of Mackenzie River waters through the Delta and into the Arctic Ocean by using natural geochemical markers. Water samples will be collected by drilling through the ice at 50 locations along the main channel of the river and out over the shelf. This information is important for understanding the circulation of Arctic Ocean waters, the processes of global climatology, and the distribution of ocean contaminants.
