Objectif(s): To characterize the zooplankton species composition and distribution of western arctic lakes and ponds; to identify parent taxa of hybrid polyploid Daphnia and Bosmina forms through genetic analysis; to characterize the population genetic structure and gene flow patterns in the glacial relict species Limnocalanus macrurus.

Description du projet: Zooplankton will be collected from lakes and ponds located along a transect between Paulatuk and Shingle Point (Yukon). The specimens that are collected will be identified according to species type and genetic analyses will be performed to determine what species are interbreeding to produce hybrid organisms. Knowledge about zooplankton is important as many organisms (such as fish) depend on these creatures as a major source of food.
