Objectif(s): To determine how far north certain organochlorine contaminants travel; to measure the levels of these contaminants in zooplankton collected from different latitudes in an attempt to determine the effects and range of atmospheric-transported organochlorines; to develop a model that could be used to predict the concentration of organochlorines in edible fish from information collected for zooplankton.
Description du projet: Organochlorine contaminants can be carried to the arctic in the atmosphere. I will be measuring the amount of these contaminants in zooplankton to determine the effects and range of organochlorines in the arctic ecosystem. The information that I collect will be useful in determining what types of organochlorines are most common in zooplankton as well as providing a means to estimate the levels of contaminants in fish (since fish eat zooplankton).
