Objectif(s): To compare basic resource-related elements of settlements made between Native peoples and nation states and, in particular, to compare the cases of the Saami (Lapps) in Sweden and the Inuvialuit of the NWT; to learn from the different models so as to better formulate new laws (or try to avoid certain types of legal constructs) for future Native agreements.
Description du projet: The purpose of this research is to study and compare the different settlements made between Natives and nation states for resource management. In particular, the researcher will examine the Land Claim Settlement of the Inuvialuit and compare this settlement with that of the Saami (Lapps) of Sweden. The researcher is interested in the relations between hunters and herders of reindeer and caribou. He will collect data through informal interviews.
