Objectif(s): To provide base indices of relative population size for arctic charr based on the catch per unit effort; to assess the feasibility of conducting an effective monitoring program based chiefly on the cooperation of resource users; to establish a total allowable catch (TAC) for the DeSalis River arctic charr stock; to develop a fishing plan for the DeSalis River based on the TAC; to prepare a collection of whole fish samples for contaminant analyses.

Description du projet: Anadromous arctic charr, currently viewed of as the eastern form, are known to spawn and overwinter in the DeSalis River system. Residents of Sachs Harbour have expressed an interest in harvesting arctic charr from this system for consumption and commercial purposes. Two resident monitors will sample the subsistence catch of this stock in order to estimate stock size and age. Whole fish will be collected for the purposes of contaminant analyses.
