Objectif(s): To test the hypothesis that ringed seals are territorial under the sea ice; to determine the depths and durations of dives by free-swimming ringed seals; to investigate the sensory components of under-ice navigation by free-swimming ringed seals;
Description du projet: This project is investigating the social organization, diving behavior, and foraging patterns of ringed seals under the shore-fast ice. Sonic transmitters will be attached to the seals and monitored by four hydrophones lowered through the ice.
