Project Description: This project consists of conducting a series of workshops with community governments and residents on the topic of climate change, current and future impacts of climate change on municipal services, as well as possible measures that can be implemented to help communities adapt to climate change. The goal of the workshop is to document concerns, identify areas for further research, and determine potential impacts and adaptation measures related to climate change. The current licence covers a one-day workshop to be held in Yellowknife involving First Nations and municipal councillors, and municipal service providers. Workshop discussions will be specific to impacts on water and power services, roads and related infrastructure, and will generate information that will contribute to the creation of a NWT-based research needs assessment and adaptation strategy. Notes from the workshop will be returned to participants for their review before a final report is prepared. To increase knowledge and awareness, and help communities anticipate and prepare for climate change impacts, a summary document containing the results from all workshops will be produced and distributed to all NWT communities, including Aboriginal, territorial and federal governments. The study will be conducted on March 8, 2006 within the municipal bounds of Yellowknife.
