Objective(s): The objective of the research team is to provide lexical and grammatical information on the Dogrib language for the updating of the Dogrib dictionary. The goal of the team is to increase dictionary entries by 3-4 times, as well as increasing the information on grammar, place names and verb inflection contained in the dictionary. The research project will contribute to the educational and cultural resources of the Dogrib community. Additionally, from an historical linguistic perspective, the collection of contemporary forms of words and grammatical structures, in order to compare them with older forms, is vital in understanding how and why language changes.
Project Description: The research team will travel to Rae-Edzo by air and road, in order to collaborate with the local dictionary working group. The primary activities of the team will include assisting the working group on the collection, and computer inputting, of lexical and grammatical information on the Dogrib language.
